Steve Fossett was a pioneering aviator, businessman, and philanthropist. Fossett made history in 2007 when he became the first pilot to fly solo around the world in a balloon. He spent a total of 4,900 days in the air, from September 7, 1985 to May 29, 2007. In 2011, he set the record for the longest solo balloon flight when he flew from South America to North America in a single-engine plane
In 2011, Steve's brother Michael joined him in taking the record for the longest balloon flight ever. In 2013, his final flight took place when he became the first person to fly from California to Brazil non-stop in a balloon.
